Upper Cumberland Development District has an opening for a Business Specialist. The Business Specialist will work to elevate the economic status of the Upper Cumberland region and businesses throughout; improving workforce conditions for both employers and employees by identifying barriers and creating solutions to overcome them.
Duties include:
- Builds relationships with existing industries and stakeholders throughout the region identifying needs and providing access to resources to address identified needs
- Researches and writes proposals and grant applications to secure funding for identified challenges.
- Completes reporting and program administration requirements of multiple funding agencies
- Provides assistance in the development of short and long-term economic and community development plans
- Gathers information and prepares studies, reports, and recommendations to achieve stated goals.
- Serves as a liaison to local, state, and federal agencies
- Prepares grant proposals and applications; researches grants and administers awarded grants.
- Attends training and becomes proficient in job-related subject matters
Qualifications:
- Highly driven, self-starter able to chart the course of this new position
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in identifying weaknesses and problem-solving through critical thinking
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to attend necessary training
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask
Bachelor’s degree in business, political science, economic development, or a related degree is preferred. Experience in manufacturing, business development, or workforce fields is valued. Tennessee Certified Economic Developer Certification – to be earned during employment
